Teaching Portfolio
As a dance teacher, I believe that a supportive learning environment is crucial to students’ continuous growth. The values of support, continuous growth, authenticity, and curiosity form the foundation of my teaching. My intention is to establish a safe environment where students may freely explore movement, ask questions, and gain a deeper understanding of who they are as dancers. As I encourage students, they grow to become more receptive to learning, more mindful of their development, and more curious and authentic in their movement.
My objective for students is to grow both technique and artistic voice. I encourage risk-taking through movement so dancers can go beyond their comfort zones and discover new possibilities in their movement. At the same time, I emphasize the importance of strong alignment, dynamics, and musicality, guiding students to move with intention and purpose. I want dancers not only to execute movement with strength but also to understand how and why they move, so they can move with clear intention.
In my teaching, I strive to create an inclusive and encouraging environment where all students feel respected and capable of improvement. My goal is to establish a welcoming atmosphere by recognizing that there are multiple perspectives in the room, so I incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including verbal cues, demonstrations, imagery, and supportive feedback, to engage students. In ballet and modern classes, I may focus on alignment, placement, and clarity of movement, while in jazz or contemporary styles I may emphasize dynamics, musicality, and performance quality. Across all styles, I adapt my instruction to meet the needs of the dancers while maintaining strong technical foundations. I also encourage students to take an active role in their learning by fostering open communication through questions and actively investigating corrections.
Ultimately, my goal as a teacher is to inspire a lifelong appreciation for dance while creating a studio environment that embraces diversity and fosters a strong sense of community. Through the encouragement in my teaching, I want my students to feel they have endless opportunities to learn, grow, and progress at their own pace. My intent is to nurture skilled dancers as well as thoughtful, confident individuals, both inside and outside the studio.
