Artistic Statement
Dance is a form of self-alignment and a way for me to connect with and share elements of myself through movement, rhythm, and expression. Discovering dance as a practice of self-alignment continues to sustain my passion and creativity by giving me space to grow and allowing my work to evolve alongside me. I often create movement inspired by personal experiences, designing a space where I can access an honest flow of choreography that feels true to who I am. I strive to communicate these experiences without relying on literal storytelling, inviting viewers to form their own interpretations and discover their own sense of comfort within the work. I am especially interested in how shifts in dynamic range can shape emotional experience, using contrast in timing, texture, and energy to create space for reflection, curiosity, and connection.
My evolving dance vocabulary allows me to blend various techniques that emphasize steady, fluid movement. I frequently embrace slow-moving qualities throughout my choreographic and improvisational work, paired with sharp and sudden moments that create a sense of control and release. Exploring unusual shapes and discovering new possibilities within movement is central to my process, as it reflects my ongoing search for growth and alignment through dance. I also enjoy the challenge of incorporating props to introduce new dynamics within my work. Doing so reminds me to remain playful and curious in my creative practice as both a dancer and choreographer. Ultimately, my choreography encourages others to embrace their own authenticity, just as I seek to do through my own process.
I am grateful for the acceptance and reception of my work, as well as the dedication and authenticity of each performer I collaborate with. Through trial and error, I will continue learning from my past work and evolving through it, while staying true to each version of myself.
